
Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel added mobile subscribers in January 2025, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) reported continued user losses, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Subscriber Additions
Bharti Airtel led the month with a net addition of 16.5 lakh users, followed by Reliance Jio with 6.86 lakh. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea lost 13.4 lakh subscribers and BSNL saw a decline of 1.52 lakh users. TRAI noted that the broadband data for Jio and Airtel was based on November 2024 figures, as both operators did not submit updated data in the required format for the past two months.

Broadband Subscriber Trends
The total number of broadband users in India increased marginally to 9451.6 lakh in January from 9449.6 lakh in December—reflecting a growth of just 0.04%.
Wireless Broadband Market Share (as of January 31, 2025)
- Reliance Jio retained its leadership position
- Bharti Airtel followed in second place
- Vodafone Idea held steady at 12.64 crore subscribers
- BSNL dropped slightly to 3.15 crore, down from 3.16 crore in December
- Intech Online remained a minor player with 0.89 lakh users
Together, these five service providers accounted for 99.98% of the wireless broadband market.
Overall Mobile Market
India’s total wireless subscriber base rose to 115.13 crore in January from 115.07 crore in December, marking a 0.05% monthly increase. Private telecom operators—Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea—continued to dominate with a combined market share of 91.96%. State-owned operators, BSNL and MTNL, collectively held the remaining 8.04% as of January 31.
