The Government of India has officially announced the dissolution of the Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) highest inter-departmental decision-making body. Established approximately 37 years ago, the commission was responsible for addressing policy issues and matters involving major financial implications.

The organisation was initially created in 1989 under the name Telecom Commission and was subsequently renamed the Digital Communications Commission in 2018.

The DCC included senior representatives from NITI Aayog, the Ministry of Finance, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, along with officials from other government departments. It played a key role in addressing complex and disputed matters within the telecom sector. Most major telecom-related decisions were finalised by the commission before being forwarded to the Union Cabinet for final clearance, including issues concerning spectrum pricing and recommendations made by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

The commission conducted its final meeting on September 3, 2026, during which it concluded the decision concerning spectrum allocation for satellite communications.
