The Government of India is actively working to enhance internet-based telecom connectivity in rural and remote areas through various schemes under Digital Bharat Nidhi. One of the key initiatives is the 4G Saturation Project, which aims to ensure mobile coverage in every village across the country.

Additionally, the BharatNet project is being implemented in phases to provide broadband connectivity through Wi-Fi hotspots, Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections, and other high-speed internet solutions. As of February 2025, 2,14,323 Gram Panchayats (GPs) have been made service-ready under BharatNet.

Mobile Connectivity Reaches 97% of Indian Villages

According to data from the Registrar General of India, as of December 2024, India has a total of 6,44,131 villages. Out of these, 6,25,853 villages now have mobile network coverage, including 6,18,968 villages equipped with 4G connectivity.

With these initiatives, the government continues to bridge the digital divide, ensuring seamless telecom connectivity for millions in rural India.
