Google Cloud Eyes Further Expansion of AI Data Centre Footprint in India Beyond Visakhapatnam

Summary:
Google Cloud plans to expand its AI data centre investments in India beyond its upcoming 1 GW facility in Visakhapatnam, signalling a broader long-term strategy for the country. The company said its previously announced $15 billion investment is only the first phase of its plans and intends to double its capital expenditure on Indian data centre infrastructure. Google Cloud also identified India as its fastest-growing market in Asia, driven by strong enterprise demand, with AI continuing to be the company’s key global growth engine.

Google Cloud is preparing to further strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) data centre footprint in India, with plans extending beyond its recently announced project in Visakhapatnam, according to the company’s global Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

During a recent visit to India, the CEO said the previously announced $15 billion investment for a 1-gigawatt (GW) AI-focused data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, announced in October 2025, represents only the beginning of the company’s long-term plans in the country. He indicated that Google Cloud intends to significantly expand its investments by doubling its capital expenditure on data centre infrastructure in India.

He also described India as Google Cloud’s fastest-growing market in Asia, highlighting particularly strong momentum in the enterprise segment. According to the CEO, artificial intelligence remains the company’s primary global growth driver, with enterprise adoption playing a central role in accelerating the broader deployment of AI technologies.
