The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to enhance connectivity during the upcoming inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The DoT is conducting predictive analysis based on expected attendance to guide telecom operators in deploying additional mobile sites and determining the optimal technology—2G, 4G, or 5G. Anticipating around 12,000 people in the inner periphery of the temple, with many more in the surrounding area, the DoT aims to ensure seamless network connectivity for the large congregation.
According to officials, the predictive analysis suggests the need for approximately 90-91 mobile towers or cell on wheels (COW) to be deployed. Telecom operators will receive information about the required number of 2G, 4G, and 5G towers and their specific locations. The mobility of these towers allows for adjustments based on crowd movements. The DoT has established a war room to serve as a control center, monitoring all telecom activities in and around Ayodhya. Through daily meetings with telecom operators and simulations, the DoT is preparing for various scenarios.
Using AI/ML, the DoT has determined the most suitable technology towers and frequency bands to cater to the diverse needs of the visitors. A combination of 2G, 4G, and 5G mobile towers will be deployed to accommodate individuals from different economic backgrounds. The temple inauguration, scheduled for January 16, will mark the beginning of the celebrations, culminating on January 22 with the consecration of the idol.
In addition to addressing connectivity challenges, the DoT is incorporating crowd management and security measures by tracking the number of assembled people. This information will assist law enforcement agencies in implementing preventive measures. To safeguard against cyber threats, the telecom networks are being fortified, recognizing the increased risk of cyber-attacks, especially during high-profile events. The DoT emphasizes the importance of network security, acknowledging the routine occurrence of cyber-attacks, and underscores their preparedness for the temple inauguration event.
