Caribbean telecom company Digicel Group has announced the activation of its subsea fiber cable, Deep Blue One. Spanning 2,250 km with five landing points, this cable aims to enhance connectivity across the Caribbean and South America, particularly benefiting French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Technical Specification
Deep Blue One features five branching units and offers a minimum of 12 Tbps capacity per fibre pair, with segments containing two to eight fiber pairs. Orange is responsible for the landing operations in Cayenne for the French Guiana branch and manages the cable landing station on behalf of Digicel. The cable was laid by Orange’s subsidiary, Orange Marine.
The cable is strategically routed to connect offshore oil and gas rigs, with new landings in Trinidad, Tobago, and Suriname, including a new route between Trinidad and Tobago. Designed to accommodate future growth and evolving technological requirements, the Deep Blue One cable is a key infrastructure development for the region.
