Due to the ongoing support from the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI), and the Ministry of Power, Green Open Access rules have started in various states across the country on Tuesday, announced by the Cellular Operators Association (COAI). COAI revealed five states- Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand- which has adopted amendment in the Green Open Energy Access Rules issued by the Ministry of Power in May this year.
Director General of COAI, expresses satisfaction, Kochhar said, “We are happy to see that a long -standing demand of the industry is now considered to be supported by the government, and the adoption of the convenient green open access by the leading states and central regions across India stops the situation of the industry on the matter.” Representing major telecom companies such as COAI, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, sees the government’s Green Open Access as positive development.
Kochhar emphasized that, as an essential infrastructure region and a major promoter of India’s economic development, the industry has clear objectives of renewable and green energy of the industry. This step aligns with the country’s carbon reduction goals and stability efforts. Kochhar has estimated this trend to expand with rapid adoption by other states and centre areas in the near future.
