Cabinet Clears ₹6,000 Crore Boost for BSNL & MTNL’s 4G Expansion

Cabinet Clears ₹6,000 Crore Boost for BSNL & MTNL’s 4G Expansion

The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹6,000 crore financial package to accelerate the 4G network expansion of BSNL and MTNL, according to a report. This funding will help both state-owned telecom companies strengthen and expand their network infrastructure. The allocated funds will be used to enhance 4G coverage across the country, ensuring better connectivity for consumers.

Under this initiative, one lakh 4G sites will be deployed to improve network reach and service quality. However, the report indicates that an additional ₹6,000 crore will be required for full implementation. The government has already extended ₹3.22 lakh crore in financial aid to BSNL and MTNL through three separate revival packages.

As part of the plan, BSNL and MTNL have signed a 10-year agreement for 4G network sharing, aimed at optimizing resources and improving service delivery. This initiative is expected to strengthen BSNL and MTNL’s position in the telecom sector, enabling them to compete with private players while contributing to India’s digital connectivity goals.
