The long-standing challenges faced by indigenous tribal communities in the remote regions of the former Adilabad district due to the lack of telecom signals are expected to come to an end soon. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is nearing the completion of around 150 towers to provide 4G network coverage in these areas. For years, tribals living in the hilly and valley regions of Adilabad, Nirmal, and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts had to climb trees or trek long distances to find a mobile signal, often during emergencies. This issue has also impacted children trying to attend online classes.
However, with the installation of these new towers, such difficulties will soon be a thing of the past. The towers, sanctioned in 2022, are expected to be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming months. “The installation is in its final stage, with electricity set up and 4G equipment installed,” said Sridhar, BSNL’s Divisional Engineer in Bellampalli.
This development is set to transform the lives of those in remote areas, helping them stay connected with the rest of the world, access current information, and communicate with officials in times of need. “We have struggled for over two decades without reliable communication, feeling isolated. Finally, we will be free from this challenge,” said Vedma Venkatesh, a resident of Mangi village in Tiryani mandal.
Of the 16 towers granted to Tiryani mandal, 12 are ready for inauguration, while construction on the remaining four is still pending. Other remote villages in areas like Kerameri, Bejjur, Lingapur, Jannaram, and Jainoor will also benefit from improved mobile connectivity. This initiative is part of a larger pan-India project launched by the union government two years ago, aimed at providing 4G network access to 390 underserved villages across Telangana, including 153 in the composite Adilabad district.
