Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a government-owned telecom provider, has introduced rural FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) services across India, extending coverage to more than 79,000 villages. This initiative is part of the Digital Bharat Nidhi programme, under which the government is offering free FTTH installations in पंचायत and other villages through the BharatNet project.
Under this rural FTTH offering, customers are required to pay only fixed monthly charges, while BSNL provides the connection by installing optical fibre at homes or institutions without any installation cost. The operator has also introduced dedicated tariff plans specifically for rural users.
One such plan is priced at ₹399 per month, offering unlimited voice and high-speed data with speeds of up to 40 Mbps and a data limit of 1400GB. Additionally, long-term options are available at ₹5,900 and ₹9,900 for extended durations. Customers can apply for a connection through nearby BSNL offices, retail outlets, or customer care services.
For users seeking higher speeds and bundled entertainment, BSNL also offers a ₹999 monthly plan that delivers speeds of up to 200 Mbps with 5000GB of data, along with OTT benefits such as JioHotstar, SonyLIV, Lionsgate, Hungama, Shemaroo, and EpicON. With these offerings, BSNL continues to strengthen its presence in rural India by expanding both mobile and fibre connectivity.
