BSNL Bharat Fibre Achieves 500,000 Customer Milestone in Tamil Nadu

BSNL Bharat Fibre Achieves 500,000 Customer Milestone in Tamil Nadu

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reached a significant milestone by amassing 500,000 fiber broadband customers in the Tamil Nadu circle. In a social media post, BSNL Tamil Nadu expressed gratitude to its customers and business partners for their trust and support in achieving this milestone.

Similarly, BSNL recently announced a milestone in the Kolkata circle, reaching 60,000 Bharat Fibre customers. Scaling the fiber broadband business in India, with its dispersed population, is particularly challenging. Fiber broadband also comes at a higher cost than mobile services, which generally slows its adoption.

BSNL launched Bharat Fibre services in October 2020 to compete with Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Despite being outpaced by these private telcos in the home broadband segment due to better branding and aggressive marketing, BSNL remains the third-largest FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) provider in the country. BSNL aims to capture more market share to reclaim its leadership in the segment.

BSNL already has a substantial home broadband customer base and a presence in nearly every telecom circle. The merger with Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) has bolstered BSNL’s FTTH and mobile business by providing access to BBNL’s fiber assets nationwide. The FTTH segment is crucial for telcos as it attracts high-paying customers and generates increased revenues.

BSNL offers competitive broadband plans compared to Jio and Airtel, with plans starting at under Rs 300 per month.
