BSNL 4G to 5G Tower Upgrade in Next 8 Months, Says Scindia

BSNL plans to upgrade its entire 4G tower network to 5G within the next 6–8 months, as announced by Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The transformation targets seamless next-generation connectivity across India. 

BSNL’s 4G-to-5G Upgrade Timeline 

Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announces, BSNL plans to upgrade its entire 4G tower network to 5G within the next 6-8 months. According to him, the indigenous 4G network deployed across more than 92,000 towers will be converted to 5G by 8 months. He asserted that India has now established its 4G standard and is ready to network across the country. 

Strategic Significance 

This upgrade helps India reduce the dependence on foreign telecom vendors, strengthening the Make In India in the critical infra domain. Moreover, such conversion is software based and cloud-compatible, it determines the stage for future scalability and innovation. 

Challenges for BSNL 

  • How will BSNL handle technical migration with minimal downtime? 
  • Are all towers in rural and urban zones will get upgrade altogether? 
  • Impact on network performance, delay and post-user experience
