Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Kerala Installs 6,979 Locally Developed 4G Sites Across the State

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Kerala has deployed 6,979 locally developed 4G sites to strengthen high-speed data services and improve indoor voice coverage across the state. Designed to be upgradeable to 5G, the rollout supports India’s push for self-reliant telecom infrastructure. Of these, 322 sites have been installed in tribal, hilly, and remote border areas, expanding connectivity to underserved regions. The network is built on an indigenous technology stack developed in collaboration with Centre for Development of Telematics and a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services. 

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Kerala has rolled out 6,979 domestically developed 4G sites, including towers and base stations, to enhance high-speed data access and improve indoor voice connectivity across the state. The company stated that this indigenous 4G network, which can be upgraded to 5G, represents a move toward self-reliant telecom infrastructure while delivering better data and call quality.

Of the total deployments, 322 sites have been set up in tribal, hilly, and remote border areas, extending connectivity to previously underserved regions. BSNL also noted that, unlike earlier technologies, this network is built on a fully indigenous technology stack developed in partnership with organisations such as Centre for Development of Telematics and a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services.
