BSNL Poised for Transformation into a Robust and Capable Organization, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw

In the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed confidence that the state-owned BSNL would transform into a new and capable organization with the unwavering support of the Modi government. Addressing concerns raised by some members regarding the acronym “BSNL” being humorously interpreted as “Bhai Sahab Nahi Lagega” (It won’t work, buddy), the minister asserted that soon people would say “Bhai Sahab Naya Lagega” (It will work anew). He highlighted the government’s commitment by mentioning the substantial financial package of Rs 1.64 lakh crore provided to BSNL, which is already showing signs of improvement with operating profits.

Vaishnaw stated, “Now, BSNL is making operating profit… and about after a year, BSNL will become a strong and capable entity… The Modi government is standing like a rock behind MTNL and BSNL.” These comments were part of his response during a debate on the Telecommunications Bill, 2023, which was subsequently passed by the House through a voice vote.
