Amdocs Facilitating Telecom Operators in Monetizing 5G and IoT Use Cases Across Logistics, Healthcare, and Connected Devices

Amdocs, the U.S.-based telecom software firm, is collaborating with telecom operators to identify and capitalize on new 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) use cases, particularly in logistics, healthcare, connected vehicles, and connected devices. Samit Banerjee, Division President, Cloud Operations Services & Head of Customer Service unit at Amdocs, mentioned that while these use cases are still in progress, telecom operators are exploring applications in the IoT domain, such as connected devices and vehicles.

According to Banerjee, telecom operators are investigating the potential uses of 5G in logistics, fleet tracking, manufacturing, and factories. The low-latency capabilities of 5G are expected to facilitate extending healthcare services to patients in rural and remote areas. Amdocs has already collaborated with Vodafone in Germany to create a 5G clinic use case, allowing the operator to deliver information faster to patients and provide medical history information from different doctors efficiently.

In October, Bharti Airtel in India joined forces with Amdocs to drive 5G and IoT monetization. The collaboration aims to establish a digital platform for automating and digitizing Airtel’s business operations. Additionally, it will enable the creation of a unified plan and bill, Airtel Black, covering all services, including mobility, broadband, direct-to-home, and satellite communications.

While Jio and Airtel have expanded the coverage of their 5G networks to over 15,000 cities and towns, Vodafone Idea is yet to finalize its 5G deployment strategy. Amdocs acknowledges that telecom operators have made substantial investments in 5G infrastructure and are now actively seeking opportunities to monetize their investments. However, Banerjee notes that operators have not yet identified exceptional 5G monetizing use cases.
