Airtel, Ericsson & Volvo Group Team Up for AI, Digital Twins & XR on 5G-Advanced in India

Bharti Airtel, Ericsson, and the Volvo Group have joined forces in a 5G-focused research partnership to explore the potential of Extended Reality (XR), Digital Twin technologies, and AI in the manufacturing sector. The collaboration aims to revolutionize industrial operations, optimize real-time processes, and enhance workforce training through 5G and 5G-Advanced technologies. 

The research will take place at the Volvo Group Factory and R&D Centre in Bangalore, where the companies will test Industrial Metaverse applications, focusing on human-machine collaboration that merges physical and digital environments. 

Transforming Industry with 5G and AI 

This initiative will drive greater efficiency and foster innovation by providing a digital platform for immersive training and real-time process optimization using advanced AI technologies. 

  • Sharat Sinha, CEO of Airtel Business, highlighted that Airtel’s high-speed, low-latency 5G network will reshape manufacturing by enabling real-time XR applications, improving productivity, and accelerating Industry 4.0 adoption. 
  • Kamal Bali, MD of Volvo Group India, emphasized that the industry is undergoing a massive transformation driven by automation, connectivity, and alternative energy solutions. He noted that 5G and XR technologies will enhance collaboration across Volvo’s industrial and R&D sites, fostering real-time innovation and digitalization.  
  • Nitin Bansal, MD of Ericsson India, described 5G as a game-changer for intelligent and immersive industrial experiences. He reiterated Ericsson’s commitment to leveraging 5G and XR to create an ecosystem that will revolutionize manufacturing. 

This partnership underscores the growing role of 5G in shaping the future of industrial operations, paving the way for smarter, more connected, and efficient manufacturing processes.
