Air India Introduces In-Flight Wi-Fi on Domestic and International Flights

Air India, a leading private airline, announced the launch of in-flight Wi-Fi internet connectivity for both domestic and international flights. The service is currently available on widebody Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9, and select Airbus A321neo aircraft, making Air India the first Indian airline to offer in-flight internet connectivity on domestic routes.

Features of Air India’s In-Flight Wi-Fi

The new service allows passengers to remain connected in the air, enabling activities such as browsing, social media engagement, and messaging during their flight. Wi-Fi is accessible on various devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones operating on iOS or Android platforms. Passengers can even connect multiple devices simultaneously when the aircraft is above 10,000 feet.

“Connectivity is now an integral part of modern travel. For some, it’s about the convenience and comfort of real-time sharing, while for others, it’s about greater productivity and efficiency,” said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer at Air India.

Pilot Program and International Rollout

The service builds on Air India’s ongoing pilot program for international routes, which has been operational on Airbus A350, select Airbus A321neo, and Boeing B787-9 aircraft. These flights connect major destinations such as New York, London, Paris, and Singapore. During the introductory phase, in-flight Wi-Fi is offered complimentary to passengers.

The airline plans a gradual expansion of the service to other aircraft in its fleet, ensuring broader accessibility in the coming months.

Limitations and Access Instructions

Air India clarified that the performance of in-flight Wi-Fi may vary due to factors such as satellite connectivity, overall bandwidth demand, flight routes, and government regulations.

To access the service, passengers simply need to:

  1. Enable Wi-Fi on their device.
  1. Select the network labeled ‘Air India Wi-Fi.’
  1. Enter their PNR and last name on the portal.

This initiative underscores Air India’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience, aligning with modern travel demands for connectivity and convenience.
