Tejas Networks Completes Delivery of Equipment for BSNL’s 1 Lakh 4G5G Sites

Tata Group’s telecom equipment arm, Tejas Networks, has successfully completed the supply of equipment for 1 lakh 4G/5G sites to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), as part of a major contract awarded in August 2023.

“We shipped over 100,000 sites for BSNL’s 4G/5G rollout — one of the largest single-vendor RAN deployments globally, completed in record time. I’m proud of the efforts by our team, the TCS-led consortium, C-DoT, and our customer BSNL,” said Anand Athreya, CEO and Managing Director of Tejas Networks, during the company’s recent earnings call.

Tejas Networks had secured the ₹7,492 crore deal after rigorous trials, partnering with TCS and C-DoT. BSNL is expected to begin its 4G services in June 2025, with plans to upgrade to 5G once the 4G network stabilizes — nearly nine years after private telcos launched their own 4G networks.

In terms of financials, the company reported:

  • A consolidated loss of ₹72 crore in the March 2025 quarter.
  • A 44% YoY rise in quarterly revenue to ₹1,907 crore.
  • For FY2024-25, a consolidated profit of ₹446.53 crore, and revenue more than tripling to ₹8,923 crore.

During the quarter, Tejas also

  • Entered a strategic technology collaboration with NEC Corporation Japan to co-develop advanced wireless and RAN technologies, including core and EPC solutions, and pursue joint go-to-market strategies.
  • Completed delivery of Phase 1 telecom gear under a three-year contract with Vodafone Idea (Vi) to strengthen the telco’s backend network across multiple circles.

Tejas Networks’ COO Arnob Roy confirmed the completion of the Vi project’s first phase and noted that the company is in advanced talks for a follow-up contract with BSNL, while also eyeing upcoming tenders, including the Rail Kavach train safety project.
