Tidal Wave Deploys Private 5G Network for Coal India, Eyes Expansion in Mining and Manufacturing

Indian startup Tidal Wave Technologies has successfully deployed a private 5G network at Coal India, a state-run enterprise, to enable enhanced connectivity, real-time data analytics, and remote operations. The company revealed that it is actively in talks with other public sector enterprises in the mining, manufacturing, and logistics sectors for similar deployments.

“Our solution, implemented in collaboration with BSNL, included a private 5G network offering mission-critical communications (MCX), 5G-enabled drones, cameras, and sensors. These capabilities significantly improve safety, support remote operations, and enable real-time analytics,” said Ankit Dixit, Founder and CEO of Tidal Wave Technologies.

The deployment spans various Coal India locations across Gujarat, Maharashtra, and key mining hubs like Amlohri, Dhanbad, and Ranchi. The network uses spectrum in the 3500 MHz band allocated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), with Druid Software providing the core, and Tidal Wave supplying the radio equipment.

Tidal Wave has also implemented 5G-powered systems for vehicle tracking, fuel management, and environmental monitoring at these sites. “Our strength lies in delivering field-proven Radio Access Networks (RAN) and designing highly customized solutions for Indian enterprises—right from planning to deployment and ongoing management,” Dixit explained.

The Mumbai-based startup is now focusing on scaling its offerings across sectors where 5G can drive operational efficiency, automation, and workplace safety. “What BSNL brings to the table during pre-sales is an assurance of reliability and authenticity, which is crucial for enterprise clients,” Dixit noted.

While the potential for private 5G in India is immense, Dixit acknowledged that telecom operators face hurdles such as the need for customized enterprise solutions, along with uncertainties around spectrum pricing and availability, which can delay large-scale rollouts.
