How BSNL Is Planning to Upgrade Services in Coming Years?

How BSNL Is Planning to Upgrade Services in Coming Years

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-run Indian telecom operator, is taking significant steps to enhance its services and improve customer satisfaction. Beyond its ongoing 4G rollout, the company is implementing several measures to ensure a seamless user experience.

eSIM and Cache Servers for Improved Network Performance

BSNL has announced plans to introduce eSIM technology by March 2025, offering customers greater convenience and flexibility. Additionally, to enhance network performance and reduce latency, the telco is installing cache servers across various locations nationwide. These efforts aim to ensure a smoother and more reliable experience for users when 4G becomes widely available.

Testing VoWi-Fi and Expanding SIM Delivery Services

The operator is also testing Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) on its networks, which could enable Wi-Fi calling at lower tariff plans. This move could attract customers from private telecom operators seeking cost-effective communication options. Furthermore, BSNL is planning to roll out home delivery services for SIM cards across India. Currently, the service is being tested in select circles through partnerships with local companies.

Potential Partnerships with Netflix and Amazon Prime

BSNL is exploring the feasibility of bundling popular streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime with its mobile plans. While this offering is not yet finalized, such a move could significantly boost the telco’s appeal to entertainment-seeking users.

Competitive Tariffs and Subscriber Growth

Despite its advancements, BSNL has confirmed that it does not plan to hike tariffs in the near future. This strategy aims to keep services affordable, even as 4G is rolled out, and to attract users from private telecom operators. This approach appears to be working, as BSNL has consistently added new subscribers since July 2024. According to TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) data, BSNL remains the only operator to show continuous subscriber growth, with Airtel managing to add users only once in October 2024.

With a combination of affordable plans, innovative technologies, and customer-focused initiatives, BSNL is positioning itself as a strong competitor in the telecom market.
