CMPDI, in collaboration with Tidal Wave Pvt Ltd., is showcasing how 5G technology is transforming the mining industry through various cutting-edge use cases at the India Mobile Congress 2024 (IMC 2024), held from October 15-18 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. These use cases demonstrate the power of 5G in enhancing safety, efficiency, and operational precision in mining operations. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event.
The first visitor to CMPDI’s stall at IMC 2024 was Shri P.M. Prasad, Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Limited, joined by CMPDI CMD Shri Manoj Kumar and other senior officials.
CMPDI is highlighting 13 key use cases at the event, which include:
– 5G Network infrastructure
– Mission Critical Communication (MCX)
– 5G-Enabled Remote Drone Operations
– 5G Cameras with AI-Enabled Video Analytics
– 5G IoT Environmental and Machinery Sensors
– Backward Compatibility with Legacy Devices using CPE
– 5G-Enabled Automated Drilling Operations
– AI-Driven Traffic Control Systems
– 5G-Enabled Slope Stability Radar Systems
– Augmented Reality (AR) with 5G-Enabled Remote Maintenance Support
– 5G C-V2X-Based Collision Avoidance Systems
– Digital Twin of Load Haul Dumper Operations
5G technology facilitates real-time communication, remote monitoring, and control, even in the most challenging environments, surpassing traditional wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi and Tetra. Its integration ensures seamless automation, reduces risks, and supports future-ready mining operations.
In 2023, the Coal Ministry successfully demonstrated 5G use cases in the Amlohri Open Cast Mine (OCP) of Northern Coalfields Limited, which included 5G-enabled drones, AI-powered cameras, vehicle tracking systems, and mission-critical voice and video communications. CMPDI played a pivotal role in the deployment of India’s first private 5G network in coal mining at Amlohri OCP.
