After recent mobile tariff hikes by private telecom companies, hundreds of thousands of users have switched to BSNL, which is now capitalizing on this shift to compete more aggressively. The state-owned company is ramping up for a nationwide 4G rollout, supported by a Rs 83,000 crore government fund announced in this year’s budget. Currently, BSNL’s 4G services are live in several major cities and telecom circles, and the company has installed over 25,000 new 4G towers.
BSNL is also attracting users with affordable plans not offered by Jio, Airtel, or Vi. For instance, BSNL’s Rs 397 prepaid plan offers 150 days of validity, making it an ideal option for those who use BSNL as a secondary number.
BSNL Rs 397 Prepaid Plan
This plan offers free incoming calls for 150 days, with unlimited free nationwide calls and roaming for the first 30 days. After the initial 30 days, users must top-up for outgoing calls, but incoming calls remain free for the entire 150-day period.
The plan also includes 2GB of daily data for the first 30 days, followed by unlimited data at reduced speeds of 40kbps. Additionally, users receive 100 free SMS per day during the first 30 days.
In parallel, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), another government-owned telecom provider operating in Delhi and Mumbai, has finalized a 10-year deal with BSNL to bring 4G services to its users. This partnership aims to upgrade MTNL’s network, providing enhanced 4G connectivity after both companies delayed their entry into the 4G market.
