National Broadband Ireland (NBI) Reaches 75000 Connections Milestone Nationwide

National Broadband Ireland (NBI) has celebrated a significant achievement, connecting over 75,000 homes, farms, and businesses to its high-speed fiber broadband network under the National Broadband Plan (NBP). This milestone was commemorated at Herbst Software in Wicklow, a recent addition to the network, in the presence of the Minister of State responsible for Public Procurement, eGovernment, and Circular Economy.

Moreover, NBI has reached another milestone by extending its network to cover 40 percent of the farms and businesses within the Intervention Area. Out of the total 91,999 farms and businesses earmarked for connectivity in rural Ireland, 36,972 are now eligible for connection.

According to National Broadband Ireland, the number of premises connected to its network has more than doubled in the past year, exceeding 75,000. Additionally, over 232,000 premises are poised for connection by engaging with one of the 62 retail partners affiliated with NBI.

Businesses connected through NBI gain access to enhanced services and products offering faster download and upload speeds, ensuring smooth operations even during peak usage periods. Standard speeds across all NBI connections guarantee 500 Mbps, with the option for plans delivering speeds of up to 2 Gbps.

The connection to Herbst Software serves as a testament to the accessibility of fast and reliable broadband even for businesses located in remote areas of the country. “High-speed broadband isn’t just a connection, it’s a lifeline for modern business operations in rural Ireland. It’s a tool that will allow us to continue to innovate and grow into the future,” remarked Herbst Software.
