5G Use Case Workshop by DoT at IIT Gandhinagar

The National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation, and Training (NTIPRIT), operating under the Department of Telecommunications (DOT), organized a two-day workshop at IIT Gandhinagar aimed at raising awareness about the diverse applications of 5G technology across industries. Titled “5G Use Case Labs: Awareness and Pre-Commissioning Readiness,” the workshop focused on fostering innovation in 5G technology use cases, particularly in the context of establishing 100 5G labs nationwide, funded by the DOT. Over 100 participants from 18 institutions in the Western region actively engaged in the workshop, contributing to its success. 

Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of Science & Technology, Gujarat, highlighted the significance of developing use cases to maximize the utilization of 5G networks. She urged for the swift establishment of the 100 5G labs and stressed the importance of enhanced coordination among academic institutions to effectively leverage these facilities. Khandhar commended the proactive initiative of the DoT in setting up these labs. 

Professor Amit Prashant, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Gandhinagar, underscored the importance of innovation and lauded the workshop’s potential societal impact. The event featured presentations on various potential use cases of 5G by startups and industry representatives, covering sectors such as enterprises, education, agriculture, health, and e-commerce. This initiative aimed to stimulate creativity and collaboration in exploring the transformative potential of 5G technology across diverse domains.
