OpenSignal Reports Shows the Need of ISPs

In the realm of internet service providers (ISPs) in India, Airtel Xstream, Reliance JioFiber, and BSNL stand out as the only pan-India options. However, numerous broadband players are gaining traction by competing with these major brands in different regions across the country. Opensignal sheds light on how ISPs are selected for assessment, a factor that holds significance at both the city and regional levels.

According to the Opensignal report, three providers are included for comparison on a national scale: Airtel, BSNL, and Jio, serving customers across all regions of India. Moreover, for city-specific evaluations, ISPs serving at least 5% of the user base in that particular city are considered.

For instance, in Ahmedabad, GTPL records a broadband download speed of 37.5Mbps, trailing Airtel (46.7Mbps) but surpassing Jio (36.4Mbps). It also demonstrates comparable performance in consistency quality and upload speed metrics. In Bengaluru, Hathway (67.7Mbps) and ACT (60Mbps) outpace Airtel (59.1Mbps) and Jio (48.3Mbps) in broadband download speeds, with similar rankings in upload speed metrics. Chennai also witnesses Hathway and ACT leading in both download and upload speed metrics over Airtel and Jio.

Excitel, serving Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region, exhibits significant advantages in download (77.2Mbps) and upload (54.7Mbps) speeds compared to Airtel (51.3Mbps down and 38.8Mbps up) and Jio (43.3Mbps down and 33.5Mbps up). Hyderabad showcases strong performances by Excitel, Hathway, and ACT, while Alliance, Wish Net, and GTPL KCBPL emerge as reliable ISPs in Kolkata. Interestingly, Hyderabad and Kolkata stand out with maximum broadband ISP competition, boasting five major ISPs vying for user subscriptions.
