Wi-Fi 7 Achieves Official Certification from Wi-Fi Alliance

Wi-Fi 7 has officially received certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance, marking the latest advancement in Wi-Fi standards. This new standard is designed to offer unparalleled internet speeds, surpassing even Wi-Fi 6E in terms of capabilities. Wi-Fi 7 promises users an exceptional connectivity experience, providing faster speeds than any previous Wi-Fi generation.

The Wi-Fi Alliance stated that Wi-Fi Certified 7 introduces new use cases, including multi-user AR/VR/XR, immersive 3D training, hybrid work, electronic gaming, industrial IoT, and more. A notable improvement is the channel size, which doubles from 160 MHz in Wi-Fi 6 to 320 MHz in Wi-Fi 7, offering increased capacity for high-speed data. Additionally, Wi-Fi 7 is more intelligent and optimized for enhanced connectivity, especially when multiple devices are connected to the same network.

Leading technology companies such as Intel, MediaTek, Qualcomm, and various OEMs already offer products that support Wi-Fi 7. Rahul Patel, Senior VP and General Manager at Qualcomm Technologies, emphasized the game-changing nature of Wi-Fi 7, highlighting its superior performance. MediaTek’s Corporate Vice President, Alan Hsu, expressed the company’s commitment to Wi-Fi 7 technology and its collaboration with Wi-Fi Alliance for testing and development.

While many smartphones in India currently support the Wi-Fi 7 standard, its impact in the country may be limited until the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) delicensces the 6 GHz band.
