Summary:
TRAI has launched an upgraded version of its MyCall app, allowing users to rate voice call quality and report issues such as dropped calls, echo, audio delays, and poor connectivity. The app combines user feedback with technical network data to help telecom operators identify weak coverage areas and improve service quality. New features include a five-star rating system, automatic post-call prompts, signal strength testing, and an interactive call history map. Available on Android, the initiative aims to promote consumer participation and strengthen data-driven telecom regulation.
Dropped calls may soon receive closer regulatory attention. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced an upgraded version of its MyCall mobile application, enabling telecom subscribers to directly evaluate voice call quality while helping service providers identify and resolve network-related issues.
The enhanced application allows users to rate their calling experience and report problems such as dropped calls, audio delays, echo, cross connections, voice interruptions, one-way audio, and delayed call setup. This feedback is shared anonymously with both TRAI and telecom service providers (TSPs), allowing them to detect network shortcomings and take appropriate corrective measures.
In contrast to traditional network monitoring, which primarily focuses on technical Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, the revamped app also measures customers’ Quality of Experience (QoE), providing a more comprehensive understanding of network performance under real-world conditions.
TRAI noted that with more than one billion telecom subscribers in India, voice calling remains the most fundamental communication service and is often the primary factor users consider when assessing network quality.
The latest version of the MyCall app introduces several new capabilities, including a five-star call rating system, automatic feedback prompts after completed calls, an interactive map displaying users’ previous call ratings, and a coverage testing feature to evaluate signal strength.
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said the upgraded platform has been developed to make it easier for subscribers to submit instant feedback after voice calls, thereby encouraging greater public participation in monitoring telecom service quality.
Lahoti added that the data collected through the application will enable telecom operators to identify weak coverage areas more efficiently, improve network performance, and deliver a better overall calling experience.
The initiative forms part of TRAI’s broader effort to strengthen consumer-focused and data-driven telecom regulation by combining technical network performance indicators with user feedback to gain deeper insights into service reliability.
The MyCall application is currently available for Android devices through the Google Play Store, and TRAI has encouraged subscribers to download the app and regularly share feedback on their voice call experience.
