6G Rollout to Propel Growth Toward Developed Nation Status

India is now preparing for the rollout of 6G technology, a move that Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal believes will drive the growth needed to achieve developed nation status. Speaking on Wednesday, Mittal highlighted that the government has replaced the 150-year-old Telegraph Act with a new Telecommunications Act, designed to be relevant for the next 20-30 years.

“5G technology has already been rolled out, and we are now planning for 6G. Both will play a crucial role in driving the growth required to become a developed nation,” Mittal said at a public relations industry event.

He also expressed optimism about the impact of the 12 new industrial cities announced by the Union Cabinet last month, which are expected to significantly boost domestic manufacturing with an estimated investment of Rs 28,602 crore. These cities are strategically located along six major corridors and include areas like Khurpia in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, and others across India.

Mittal noted that global firms with Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India are experiencing growth rates of 10-12 percent annually, further contributing to the nation’s economic progress.
