India’s Telecom Growth Continues Steadily

As of 30th September 2025, India’s telecom sector recorded 1,228.94 million total subscribers, reflecting a consistent upward trend in connectivity. The report from TRAI shows that wireless services remain the backbone of the telecom industry, accounting for the majority of connections, while broadband adoption continues to rise, bridging the urban-rural digital gap.

The overall tele-density in the country stood at 86.65%, with urban tele-density maintaining high penetration levels and rural tele-density climbing to 58.98% — a sign of expanding digital inclusion across India’s hinterlands.

Broadband Users Near 1 Billion Mark

The total number of broadband subscribers reached 995.63 million, marking a 0.61% monthly growth. This growth was driven by increasing demand for high-speed internet, digital payments, online education, and OTT platforms. Telecom operators such as Jio, Airtel, and BSNL continue to lead the market with aggressive network expansion and affordable data plans

Wireless Subscribers Lead Sector Growth

Wireless users remain the key growth driver, contributing significantly to India’s total telecom base. The increase in wireless subscriptions also reflects the success of ongoing 4G and 5G network rollouts, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

The growing availability of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) and enhanced mobile broadband speeds are further supporting India’s Digital India vision by improving connectivity in remote areas.

The September 2025 data reaffirms India’s position as the world’s second-largest telecom market, highlighting the sector’s resilience and the government’s continued efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure. With 5G expansion accelerating and rural penetration improving, India is moving closer to universal connectivity and enhanced digital inclusion.
