Ericsson Unveils 5G Advanced Software for High-Performance Programmable Networks

Ericsson Unveils 5G Advanced Software for High-Performance Programmable Networks

After establishing robust 5G networks, communications service providers (CSPs) are now set to unlock more potential with the latest innovations from Ericsson. Today, Ericsson announced the launch of seven new 5G Advanced software products, designed to help CSPs create high-performing programmable networks that elevate performance, enhance user experiences, and drive revenue and operational efficiency. These advancements are set to transform connectivity and support CSPs in meeting business and sustainability goals.

Key Highlights of Ericsson’s 5G Advanced Software

Ericsson’s 5G Advanced suite introduces new capabilities for radio access networks (RAN), leveraging AI, automation, and open network architectures. These include:

1. AI-powered RAN: Uses real-time AI and automation for faster decision-making and network optimization.

2. Intent-driven Networks: CSPs can simply set goals, and the network autonomously manages processes to meet those objectives.

3. Service-aware RAN: Adapts in real-time to different connectivity needs, ensuring SLAs are met.

4. Outdoor Positioning: Provides location-based services on 5G Standalone architecture, with or without GPS.

5. Mission Critical Services: Supports industries needing resilient connectivity, such as public safety and defense.

6. Energy Efficiency and Management: Automates energy management to reduce operational costs.

7. Device Battery Performance: Enhances battery life for 5G devices, including wearables and AR/VR glasses.

These software products, compatible with Open RAN, Cloud RAN, and purpose-built RAN, will be available as subscriptions starting Q3 2024.

Industry Leaders on Ericsson’s Innovations

AT&T: Rob Soni emphasized how Ericsson’s solutions enable new revenue streams and operational efficiency for AT&T

Optus: Kent Wu highlighted Ericsson’s commitment to innovation, which aligns with Optus’s goals for customer experience.

Telstra: Sri Amirthalingam shared that Ericsson’s software will support Telstra’s ambitions for AI-driven, autonomous networks.

T-Mobile: John Saw stated that Ericsson’s enhancements enable T-Mobile’s 5G Advanced ambitions, improving performance, energy use, and user experience.

Ericsson’s 5G Advanced software promises to help CSPs realize new revenue opportunities while delivering improved performance and customer satisfaction.
