DoT Extends 5G EMF Self-Certification Deadline to December 31 2025

DoT Extends 5G EMF Self-Certification Deadline to December 31 2025

The Telecommunications Department (DoT) has expanded the self-certification compliance to the 5G Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) by December 31, 2025. This step gives Indian telecom operators more time to ensure that the EMF is met with safety standards, adjusting the Rapid Network Rollout with public health and regulatory standards.

What the Extension Means

Telecom operators in India are required to self-propel EMF compliance for mobile towers and 5G base stations. These certificates ensure that the radiation levels remain within a safe range, according to the global health and safety standards monitored by the DoT. Originally determined in 2025, the time limit was pushed by December 31, 2025, which was largely after the requests of the operators citing 5G rollouts and technical challenges.

Why the Extension Matters

The extension allows telcos to focus on completing 5G infrastructure deployment while gradually certifying compliance with thousands of sites. It offers breathing room for operators but also puts more responsibility on them to accelerate the certification as a new deadline approach.

Industry Implications

  • Compliance pressure: Telcos should increase certification efforts to avoid punishment after December 31, 2025.
  • Regulatory inspection: DoT is expected to extend the investigation close to the deadline.
  • Industry relief: Extension has been welcomed by telecom operators and industry groups, as it reduces operating pressure during India’s massive 5G rollouts.

Balancing 5G Growth and Public Safety

India’s 5G expansion is the fastest global level, but ensuring public safety through EMF compliance is a priority. This extension highlights the government’s approach to balance fast digital growth with health safety, ensuring that the 5G ecosystem extends responsibly.

EMF gives the deadline extension of December 31, 2025. This will be an important time to arrange a large 5G rollout with strict safety standards for self-certification. As India moves towards 5G coverage nationwide, compliance will play a crucial role in strengthening confidence in telecom infrastructure and protecting public health.
