Polycab Secures ₹6,447 Crore BharatNet Contract from BSNL for Karnataka, Goa & Puducherry

Centre Committed to Ladakh’s Growth, BharatNet Expansion to Boost Digital Connectivity FM Sitharaman

Polycab India has signed a major contract worth ₹6,447.54 crore with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to serve as the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) for the BharatNet initiative across the Karnataka, Goa, and Puducherry telecom circles. This agreement falls under Package 4 of the amended BharatNet programme and includes end-to-end responsibilities for design, supply, construction, installation, upgradation, operation, and maintenance of the middle-mile network infrastructure. 

As per Polycab’s filing with the stock exchanges, the project’s cost structure includes: 

  • ₹3,741.92 crore for capital expenditure (Capex) 
  • ₹2,245.15 crore for operational expenditure (Opex) on the newly built network 
  • ₹460.47 crore for Opex on the existing infrastructure 

The network rollout is scheduled for completion within three years, followed by a 10-year maintenance contract. Maintenance costs are set at 5.5% of Capex annually for the first five years, rising to 6.5% per annum for the remaining period. 

Polycab confirmed that there is no involvement of its promoter group or affiliates in the awarding of this contract. Polycab India is the country’s largest manufacturer of wires and cables and a key player in the Fast-Moving Electrical Goods (FMEG) sector. The company is also engaged in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects, further reinforcing its role in India’s digital and power infrastructure expansion.
