BSNL International Roaming Plan of Rs 5399

BSNL International Roaming Plan of Rs 5399

The ₹5399 BSNL Global Roaming Plan comes at a time when international travel from India is surging, with over 30 million outbound trips reported in 2024 by the Ministry of Tourism, highlighting a growing demand for affordable connectivity solutions.

BSNL’s partnerships with 476 networks across 195 countries, including T-Mobile in the US and Optus in Australia, reflect a strategic move to compete with private telecom giants like Jio and Airtel, who have dominated the roaming market.

Recent upgrades in BSNL’s infrastructure, including the rollout of 4G services in rural areas, suggest an effort to bolster its domestic network before expanding globally, though challenges like signal issues in urban centres like Mumbai persist.

The plan’s 30-day validity and modest data allocation cater to short-term travellers, aligning with trends where students and tourists often switch to local SIMs after initial stays abroad. BSNL’s push into international roaming follows government initiatives under the “Make in India” campaign, aiming to position state-run enterprises as competitive players in the telecom sector, supported by recent investments in indigenous technology.
