Airtel Launches AI-Powered Security Solution to Block Malicious Websites in Real-Time

Airtel has unveiled a new AI-driven security solution designed to detect and block malicious websites across all communication platforms, including emails, web browsers, Over-The-Top (OTT) apps, and popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, and SMS—in real time. Claimed to be a world-first innovation, the service will be automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband customers at no additional cost, the company announced on May 15, 2025.

AI-Powered Protection Against Cyber Threats

According to Airtel, if a customer attempts to access a flagged malicious website, the page load is instantly blocked, redirecting the user to an informational page explaining the reason for the restriction. Currently, the service is available in the Haryana circle, with plans for a nationwide rollout in the near future.

Real-Time Threat Detection

With rising online fraud incidents, Airtel’s new solution aims to safeguard users from sophisticated cyber scams that extend beyond typical OTP frauds or phishing calls. Powered by a multi-layered AI intelligence platform, the service continuously scans internet traffic, cross-checks with global threat repositories, and references Airtel’s proprietary database of threat actors to block fraudulent websites in real time.

“Our AI-based tool scans internet traffic, checks with global repositories and our own database of threat actors in real-time, and blocks fraudulent websites. Our solution has already achieved remarkable accuracy during its six-month trial phase. We are committed to making our networks completely safe from spam and scams,” said Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel.

Building on Existing Security Features

The new solution builds upon Airtel’s existing AI-powered spam detection service launched in September last year, which alerts users of potential spam and Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC). The latest development marks another step in Airtel’s strategy to provide a secure digital experience for its users across all platforms.
