Airtel AI Powered Spam Detection Tool Upgraded with New Features

After flagging over 27.5 billion spam calls through its AI-driven detection system, Airtel has rolled out two major upgrades aimed at strengthening its spam protection capabilities. Customers will now receive spam alerts for both calls and SMS messages in their preferred Indian languages, with support for 10 regional languages initially and more to be added soon.

Additionally, Airtel’s AI system will now extend its screening to calls and SMS originating from international networks, a strategic move prompted by a 12% surge in spam traffic from overseas sources over the last six months. This comes as spammers increasingly exploit foreign routes to bypass domestic detection.

Siddharth Sharma, Director – Marketing and CEO – Connected Homes, Bharti Airtel, stated “Customer feedback is at the core of our innovation. By expanding language support and extending spam detection to international traffic, we’re addressing emerging threats while embracing India’s linguistic diversity. Our tech teams remain focused on refining these capabilities to stay ahead of spammers.”

The enhanced spam detection feature is now available in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Punjabi, and Telugu. Currently, vernacular spam alerts are supported on Android devices only. The entire feature suite remains free for all Airtel users and is automatically activated, eliminating the need for manual enrollment.
