After Airtel, BSNL to Launch AI, ML-Based Spam Detection Tool

State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is preparing to launch an AI/ML-driven solution to combat spam communications on its mobile network. Announced via a tweet, the technology is in the final stages of development and will soon be able to detect, neutralize, and eliminate scams before they reach users.

BSNL’s AI/ML Solution for Spam

The official unveiling of this solution is scheduled for the India Mobile Congress 2024, taking place from October 15-18. BSNL’s new initiative aims to protect its users by enhancing digital security and creating a safer mobile environment.

Airtel’s AI-Powered Spam Solution

BSNL’s move follows shortly after Bharti Airtel introduced India’s first network-driven AI-powered spam detection tool. Airtel’s solution, which automatically activates for all customers without the need for service requests or app downloads, blocks suspected spam calls and SMS. It works on smartphones with VoLTE-enabled calling.

TRAI’s Push for Safer Networks

Both BSNL and Airtel’s efforts are in line with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) directives to reduce unsolicited commercial communications (UCC). As spam complaints from users continue to rise, AI-driven solutions are being viewed as essential tools to enhance customer experience and reduce spam across telecom networks.
