Jio AGM 2024: Jio Aims to Connect 1 Million Homes Every Month with 5G FWA

Jio Aims to Connect 1 Million Homes Every Month with 5G FWA, Says Ambani

Reliance Jio is setting an ambitious goal to connect a million homes every 30 days with its 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) service, JioAirFiber, according to Chairman Mukesh Ambani. “We are challenging ourselves to reach a million homes every month. With this momentum, we are confident in achieving our goal of 100 million home broadband customers at an unprecedented pace,” Ambani announced during the company’s 47th annual general meeting. In addition to home broadband, Jio is also focusing on small and medium businesses, with plans to connect over 20 million of them. The company also sees potential in digitally connecting India’s 1.5 million schools and colleges, more than 70,000 hospitals, and 1.2 million doctors through high-speed internet.

Both Jio and its competitor Bharti Airtel are offering 5G-driven fixed broadband services to consumers and businesses. Industry experts believe 5G FWA is set to be one of the top revenue drivers in the 5G era due to the country’s limited fiber broadband penetration. Ambani shared that Jio had gained its first million AirFiber customers in just over six months, a milestone he described as “remarkable and the fastest of its kind globally.” The next million customers were added in just 100 days. “We are refining our operations and see even more potential to accelerate,” he added.
