What is OSSBSS in Telecom

OSS (Operations Support Systems) and BSS (Business Support Systems) are key components of telecom infrastructure used to manage and support telecommunications networks and services.

What is OSS in Telecom?

Purpose of OSS in Telecom

OSS is responsible for the operational management of telecom networks. It helps telecom operators monitor, control, analyze, and manage the technical aspects of their networks.

Functions of OSS in Telecom

  – Network Management: Managing network performance, ensuring network uptime, and troubleshooting issues.

  – Service Provisioning: Activating and configuring new services for customers, like setting up new phone lines or internet connections.

  – Fault Management: Identifying, diagnosing, and resolving network issues

  – Inventory Management: Keeping track of network assets such as routers, switches, towers, etc.

What is BSS in Telecom?

Purpose BSS in Telecom

BSS focuses on the business and customer-facing aspects of telecom operations, ensuring that services are billed correctly and that customer interactions are managed efficiently.

Functions of BSS in Telecom

  – Billing and Charging: Managing customer accounts, usage records, invoicing, and payment processing.

  – Customer Relationship Management (CRM): Handling customer inquiries, support, complaints, and service requests.

  – Order Management: Managing the process of order creation, fulfillment, and tracking of telecom services.

  – Revenue Management: Monitoring revenue flows, managing payments, and handling fraud detection.

Interaction of OSS/BSS:

– OSS and BSS are closely linked, as they work together to ensure seamless service delivery and customer satisfaction. OSS deals with the network side, while BSS handles customer and business-related activities.

– For example, when a customer requests a new service (handled by BSS), the service provisioning process is executed by OSS.

In summary, OSS focuses on the network and technical operations, while BSS is centered on customer service, billing, and business management. Together, they help telecom operators manage both their network and customer relationships effectively.
