Spectrum Auction 2024 News Reliance Jio Acquired 1800 MHz Spectrum

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, emerged as the least spender in the 2024 spectrum auction. The company acquired spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in two circles: Bihar and West Bengal, a band primarily used by the telco for 4G services. Following this acquisition, Jio’s total spectrum footprint has expanded to 26,801 MHz (uplink + downlink). 

Spectrum Acquisition Details 

Total Spending: Rs 973.63 crore 

Bihar: Acquired 5 MHz additional spectrum in the 1800 MHz band for Rs 420.25 crore. 

West Bengal: Acquired 9.4 MHz additional spectrum in the 1800 MHz band for Rs 553.38 crore. 

This new spectrum will enhance Jio’s 4G network coverage and customer experience in Bihar and West Bengal. 

Statement from Akash Ambani 

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, commented on the acquisition: “We have already demonstrated our commitment to the Digital India Vision by rolling out one of the world’s fastest and widest Stand Alone 5G networks within 12 months of spectrum allotment. This new spectrum acquisition will enable us to continue serving the aspirations of the new India, addressing growing traffic demands and providing a superior customer experience beyond just urban markets. With this strategic acquisition, Reliance Jio aims to bolster its 4G network capabilities and ensure a high-quality experience for its customers across Bihar and West Bengal.
