Vodafone Idea 5G Rollout Minimum Requirement Completed

Vodafone Idea 5G Rollout Minimum Requirement Completed

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has announced the completion of its minimum 5G rollout obligation as required by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Initially, VIL had confirmed 5G rollout in a few circles, but it has now met the requirement for all mandated circles.

The telecom department had instructed telcos to roll out 5G in both metro and non-metro circles within the first year. However, VIL experienced significant delays. Despite this, the DoT did not impose a penalty, considering VIL’s financial challenges.

Additionally, the limited monetization opportunities for 5G meant that penalizing VIL would not have benefited the growth of the Indian telecom industry.

VIL stated, “Vodafone Idea has completed its Minimum Rollout Obligation (MRO) across all Vi 5G circles on both spectrum bands.” The telco has also announced plans for a long-term 5G rollout starting this winter.
