BSNL TCS 4G Deal of Rs 15,000 Crore for Setting Up Data Centres

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is in the process of establishing large data centers across the four regions of India as part of its Rs 15,000-crore agreement with the state-owned telecommunications company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), revealed COO N Ganapathy Subramaniam. Collaborating with the government’s Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), TCS will execute a total of 38 deployments of varying capacities at BSNL premises in all telecom circles, as part of the telco’s 4G network deployment initiative. This endeavor positions TCS as the first indigenous network solutions provider.

Subramaniam outlined the complexity of the project, stating that it involves setting up two large data centers—primary servers (PR) and disaster recovery servers (DR)—in each of the four zones. Additionally, 30 data centers will be deployed in each telecom circle, tailored to the load requirements of that specific circle. The total scope comprises 38 deployments, and TCS is collaborating with hardware supply partners to ensure completion by June.

This project signifies TCS’ entry into the modern 4G and 5G communications infrastructure segment, placing it in competition with global players like Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei. After nearly a year of negotiations, TCS secured the deal, marking it as the largest business win for the IT services leader in 2023. This achievement follows significant deals such as the $723-million agreement with UK-based Phoenix Group and another substantial deal with British retailer Marks and Spencer (M&S), reported to be worth $1 billion.
