NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud Platform to Empower Wireless Tech

NVIDIA has unveiled the NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud platform, designed to empower researchers in advancing the next phase of wireless technology. This platform offers an open, flexible, and interconnected environment, providing researchers with a comprehensive suite to drive AI innovation for radio access network (RAN) technology. By accelerating the development of 6G technologies, the platform aims to facilitate the connectivity of trillions of devices with cloud infrastructures, laying the groundwork for a hyper-intelligent world characterized by autonomous vehicles, smart spaces, extended reality experiences, and collaborative robots.

Ansys, Arm, ETH Zurich, Fujitsu, Keysight, Nokia, Northeastern University, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, SoftBank Corp., and Viavi are among the initial adopters and ecosystem partners of the platform.

Ronnie Vasishta, senior vice president of telecom at NVIDIA, highlighted the importance of AI in achieving a significant leap in wireless spectral efficiency for 6G communications. He emphasized the use of AI, a software-defined full-RAN reference stack, and next-generation digital twin technology as key elements in this advancement.

The NVIDIA 6G Research Cloud platform comprises three core components:

1. NVIDIA Aerial Omniverse Digital Twin for 6G:

This feature enables physically accurate simulations of complete 6G systems, ranging from single towers to city-scale networks. It integrates software-defined RAN and user-equipment simulators, along with realistic terrain and object properties. Researchers can utilize the Omniverse Aerial Digital Twin to simulate base-station algorithms based on site-specific data and enhance transmission efficiency in real-time.

2. NVIDIA Aerial CUDA-Accelerated RAN:

This component offers a software-defined full-RAN stack, providing researchers with flexibility to customize, program, and test 6G networks in real-time.

3. NVIDIA Sionna Neural Radio Framework:

This framework facilitates seamless integration with popular AI frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow. Leveraging NVIDIA GPUs, researchers can generate and capture data and train AI and machine learning models at scale. It also includes NVIDIA Sionna, a leading link-level research tool for AI/ML-based wireless simulations.

Industry-leading researchers can leverage these elements to advance their work in 6G development.

Charlie Zang, senior vice president of Samsung Research America, emphasized the transformative potential of the convergence between 6G and AI, envisioning a future characterized by seamless connectivity and intelligent systems.

Testing and simulation are crucial in developing the next generation of wireless technology, and leading providers in this domain are collaborating with NVIDIA to meet the new requirements of AI with 6G. To access the platform, researchers can sign up for the NVIDIA 6G Developer Program, unlocking the full potential of 6G and shaping the future of wireless technology.
