ACT Fibernet to Deploy 500 Hotspots in Chennai

Chennai is poised to become a connected city with Bengaluru-based ACT Fibernet (Atria Convergence Technologies Ltd) gearing up to deploy 500 hotspots across the city, with plans to scale up to nearly 3,000 within the next 18-24 months, according to a company official.

The service was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin at the UmagineTN2024 IT summit organized by Tamil Nadu’s IT and digital services department. Initially, WiFi hotspots will be installed in key locations such as Marina Beach, Besant Nagar Beach, bus stops, corporation parks, and bus terminuses.

This initiative will benefit both ACT Fibernet customers and non-customers. Customers will have access to the WiFi service for 45 minutes each day, as per the official. ACT Fibernet has previously launched public WiFi hotspots in Hyderabad and Bengaluru and intends to introduce a similar service in Coimbatore, Tiruchi, and Madurai, as stated by the official.

Bala Malladi, CEO of ACT Fibernet, highlighted that the establishment of WiFi hotspots in public areas across Chennai will spur the development of the city’s IT infrastructure and alleviate connectivity challenges.
