Telecom Regulatory Authority of India publishes its telecom subscription report for February 2026

Summary:
As per data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea Limited recorded subscriber gains in February 2026, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited saw a decline. Growth was also observed in rural wireless users and the wireline segment for private operators, alongside a slight increase in overall tele-density. Airtel strengthened its market share during the month, whereas Vi, Jio, and BSNL witnessed marginal declines. Meanwhile, mobile number portability activity remained strong, with total requests continuing to rise. 

According to the latest figures published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea Limited added 4.85 million, 1.62 million, and 0.02 million wireless (mobile) subscribers respectively in February 2026, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited recorded a month-on-month decline of 0.10 million users. As a result, the total wireless subscriber bases of Airtel, Jio, and Vi rose to 472.64 million, 493.11 million, and 198.38 million respectively, whereas BSNL’s base fell to 92.92 million.

Additionally, TRAI’s data indicated that in rural areas, Airtel, Jio, and Vi saw subscriber increases of 0.83 million, 0.51 million, and 0.31 million respectively, while BSNL experienced a decline of 0.04 million in its wireless user base. The regulator also reported a slight rise in overall wireless tele-density, which reached 92.66 percent in February 2026 compared to 92.22 percent in January 2026.

In the wireline segment, Airtel, Jio, and Vi added 0.23 million, 0.11 million, and 0.02 million subscribers respectively, taking their total landline user bases to 11.39 million, 15.04 million, and 0.84 million. Meanwhile, BSNL registered a marginal decrease of 0.04 million users in this category.

During February 2026, Airtel further strengthened its position in the wireless market, increasing its subscriber share to 37.59 percent from 37.40 percent in the previous month. In contrast, the market shares of Vi, Jio, and BSNL edged down to 15.78 percent, 39.22 percent, and 7.39 percent respectively, compared to 15.86 percent, 39.29 percent, and 7.44 percent in January 2026.

Moreover, approximately 14.47 million subscribers submitted requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) during February 2026. Consequently, the cumulative number of MNP requests rose from 1,267.45 million at the end of January 2026 to 1,281.92 million by the end of February 2026 since the service was introduced.
